Although topping those greens is not required, most of us enjoy additional flavor with our crunch. But here’s where your nutritious meal can backslide on

the fat/calorie/preservative scale. Even if the bottle you buy at the store boasts “sugar free” “fat free” or other phrase of the day, how can you be so sure you’re putting something good into your body?

Here’s a new one I tried recently and it has the benefits of turmeric in it. Bonus points as the family enjoyed it, too!



Turmeric Orange Poppy Seed Dressing


  • 2 green onions
  • 1¬†lime, squeezed
  • 2 oranges, small, squeezed
  • 1 red bell pepper, large
  • 1 1/2 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 C olive oil (I used EVOO)


Put all ingredients except the poppy seeds into the blender and puree until smooth

Add the poppy seeds and stir with a spoon.

Drizzle it over salads right before serving.

Store in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
