What brought you to Fit Body Transformations?
A friend of a friend recommended FBT to me. But what sealed the deal was meeting with Pearla and watching a workout. I instantly connected with Pearla and agreed with her philosophies on fitness and nutrition.

What are your goals? Is simply to be the best me that I can. Not the skinniest me, but the strongest, healthiest and happiest me..

How do you make time to workout? Something I struggle with… I tend to let work, school and life take over and I come after. I enjoy my workouts and I feel so much better when I’m in a gym routine so I try and remember that and make sure that I know I’m as important as work, school and all the other stuff that fills my life.

What do you enjoy about Fit Body Transformations? I enjoy everything about FBT. I love the staff, the other members, the philosophy of ‘progress not perfection’, the workout variations, the team atmosphere and that the trainers really care about me and my life, progress and goals. I know that I’m part of the FBT community and not just a number at some chain gym.

What has been your biggest challenge since starting at Fit Body Transformations? Staying committed even when life tries to get in the way.

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not at Fit Body Transformations? I enjoy spending time with my husband and snuggling my dogs. I also like to read and DIY projects. I’m a big sports lover and I enjoy the Patriots and Red Sox games 🙂

How do you stay motivated? I stay motivated by focusing on the feelings that workouts bring me: the satisfaction of lifting a heavier weight than last week, getting into a smaller pair of jeans than yesterday or when my husband tells me he sees the difference in me and is proud of me. I stay motivated mostly for me but a little for him too 🙂

What’s your favorite meal? My favorite meal in the summer is having a salad with grilled chicken made with veggies that I grew in my garden. We love to have fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, green beans, squash and zucchini. Yum!

What’s your favorite quote? “Be the reason someone smiles today” “Workout because you love your body, not because you hate it” “I can and I will”

If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? I think I would like to be able to talk to animals. Or morph into animals. That would be way cool.

What brought you to FBT?
Well, I kept on seeing the sign on Route 125 and Zumba and Plant Fitness just wasn’t doing what I needed. I walked in and met Emma who explained the program to me and that you did nutrition as well. I signed up for the 30-days and here I am 2 years and 3 months later!

What are your goals? My goals is to be a healthy weight and to alleviate some pain from a compressed disc in my back.

How do you make time? I make time to work out by trying to schedule my workouts for the month. If I have it planned out long term I am able to stick to my routine better. I also try to eat healthy whole and raw foods 80% of the time and the other 20% I have other foods (such as alcohol, out to dinner etc.) I also drink 1 gallon of water a day to stay hydrated and to detoxify my body.

What do you enjoy at FBT?
I love the relationship I have with all the Coaches. You have literally saved my life! Most of the medical issues I had when I joined Fit Body are basically gone, unless I go off my plan and they return! I also like the close knit relationship and the support all the members give each other. When someone is having a tough work-out other members are there to encourage other members along with the coaches. You all have a very special place in my heart!

What has been your biggest challenge? Trying to lose weight! I’ve been gaining muscle and I understand muscle weighs more than fat, but I would like to get down a little bit more on my weight. I’ve been working on it seriously for the last few months and its starting to pay off!

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not at FBT? I head a golf league from May to September, I like to travel with my husband of 20 years and enjoy my family. I also do a lot of boating in the summer.

July 2017: Jonathan Ellis

What brought you to FBT?
Curiosity. A friend I used to work with asked me a couple times if I went to this gym in town that I was unaware of but that her friend went to. I finally figured out where it was and just stopped in one day on a whim. Turns out the friend she referred to is Sarah.

What are your goals? My goals were and are to improve overall fitness, endurance and flexibility so I can perform better at my regular activities: hiking, skiing, bike riding, etc. Concurrently I modified my eating patterns and selections somewhat so that I would lose weight, which I have.

How do you make time to workout? Being retired, I have as much time as I want to do whatever I want. I’ve just added the gym to my “portfolio ” of options and choose classes to attend that fit in with other things I’m doing. It’s all about commitment.

What do you enjoy about Fit Body Transformations? Three or four things, in no particular order: it’s close to home and very convenient; the variety of exercises, whether in group or suspension, keep it interesting month to month; the coaches are all super friendly and helpful; the other members are as well – between coaches and fellow members plus the various exercise, it’s always fun and entertains, never boring!

What has been your biggest challenge since starting at Fit Body Transformations? I keep hoping I’m going to take advantage of open gym time but it hasn’t happened yet.

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not at Fit Body Transformations? I try to stay busy with other active pursuits as I mentioned- hiking, skiing, biking, yard work, house maintenance and upkeep, some volunteer work, etc. I also work part time one day a week.

How do you stay motivated? I have only myself to focus on and health and well-being are very important to me as I get older. So if I want to continue to be able to do the things in I enjoy I generally don’t have much trouble motivating myself.

If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? Maybe Star Trek-like teleporting? That and any other superpowers could get us into unforeseen trouble, don’t You Think? The risk of unintended consequences.

What brought you to FBT?
Sam M. invited me to join her for a free workout. She had told me about the different workouts FBT offered, and I was definitely interested in trying one. I also had reached a plateau in progress with my usual fitness routine, so I was thrilled to get a chance to mix it up.

What are your goals? I learned about the Back To School challenge while at that free workout- it was JUST what I wanted. Like I mentioned above, I had reached a plateau in progress; my old tricks no longer worked, and I was frustrated and perplexed. I have worked out for years and years, yet the trim, athletic body I had at 23 was getting dumpier and dumpier. Tacking on additional hours a the gym did little to help, and at 41, I was at a total loss. Turns out, it was the DIET that made the difference- I made that ONE change during the challenge, and wouldn’t you know, that leaner figure started to reappear. So, this is a long-winded answer to a simple question, but my goal is to keep this trend going. I like the lean, athletic look, I like fitting into my clothes… but I really like being able to kick Father Time’s ass. Not feeling fat, frumpy- and clueless how to fix it- is awesome too.

How do you make time to workout? Making health a priority is key. I KNOW what happens when I don’t, and that is simply unacceptable. I find it most helpful to set a routine, and stick to it. This means figuring out what workouts I’m going to do, and at what time each day, to fit in the total time I have committed to spend working out each week. And then follow that schedule every day, every week. It is also helpful to plan what I’m going to want to eat each day, and only buy those items. Having stuff ready to go in the fridge helps a lot- being able to grab and go makes it easier to stay on track. I’ve come to terms with the fact it IS a lifestyle choice, that this IS the way it has to be… and simply making it routine removes the burden. It also helps that I genuinely enjoy working out and making progress. I WANT to move more weight, do more reps, be more flexible, and everything else that comes with sticking to something. It’s validating, and motivating. I don’t care what anyone else is doing, but I do care about beating those numbers on the paper from the last workout.

What do you enjoy about Fit Body Transformations?
I really enjoy the people of FBT. Which is funny, because normally, I prefer to be by myself. I am not a party person, and I am reluctant to participate in ANY group activity. Particularly when trying new things. But I felt completely comfortable and at home from the very first second walking in the door. It’s a unique culture at FBT: welcoming, supportive, friendly, encouraging… the list goes on and on, and applies to the coaches… AND clients- these are the neighbors and friends you want to have!! It’s not catty, cliquey, exclusionary, alienating, intimidating, critical, judgmental, or any of the other things a person might fear when starting a new fitness routine, and anyone -at any (and I’ll even spell it out, it’s that important: A-N-Y) level- can find a place and fit in. It really does feel like ‘family,’ which is a wonderful perk. Belongingness. Who wouldn’t want to be a part?

What has been your biggest challenge since starting at Fit Body Transformations? The biggest challenge… some days it’s making the 45 minute drive, but if I’ve said I’m going to do something, I’m hell-bent on doing it. Other than that, remembering portion size is probably the thing I most often forget… but I know it all works out, because being a train wreck one day is vastly outweighed by all the OTHER days of getting it right. It kind of helps in a way, because it recommits me to ‘be good,’ especially after an epic failure. Which, by the way, was probably a blast, and totally worth it.

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not at Fit Body Transformations? I like to spend spare time cooking. It’s so fun finding new recipes and trying new things, as well as watching chef shows. I also like to EAT what I’ve made, as does my husband. Who then tells me I’m awesome. 🙂 Oh, and have I mentioned the term, “train wreck?” Let me add, “vindication.” It IS possible to have your cake AND eat it too- learning to sub out the ‘bad’ stuff for healthier options is part of the fun. Life doesn’t stop simply because you’ve decided to cut out the crap- it actually gets better. I would have NEVER put on a skinny jeans before the challenge, and now I have three pairs.

How do you stay motivated? I am in an unending competition with myself. I am constantly trying to be stronger, fitter, more flexible, etc., because if I HAVE to get older, I may as well get better. Vanity plays a role too, because I refuse to buy bigger clothes.

What’s your favorite lunch?
I like leftovers for lunch. Because dinner is usually pretty good! And it’s motivating to make something decent for dinner, because I’m lazy, and don’t want to have to come up with something new for lunch.

If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? I would LOVE to be able to eat all the empty carbs I want, and have them magically disappear! But ‘gluttony’ isn’t really a superpower, so I guess I’d have to say omniscience. Maybe THEN, I could figure out how to eat all the empty carbs I want and have them magically disappear. All while knowing how to do everything else in the galaxy… I’d get to have ALL the answers AND look like a 23 year old hottie?!?? This is the best question ever.
